YG Entertainment, one of the largest entertainment agencies in South Korea, has hosted a special lecture for MIT students.

On March 30, more than 50 lucky students from the MIT Graduate School of Business were invited at the YG Entertainment building in Seoul for a special lecture. As part of the “Korea/ Japan Study Tour” program, the students chose to visit YG Entertainment as it is one of the leaders in the international K-Pop craze.

During the lecture, YG representative stated, “The company’s core business philosophy is ‘familism,’ which is part of a deep musical bond between the artist and the self-production system to produce a high level of content.” He also added that through various investments and experiments in music, fashion, and music videos, YG was able to become a trend setter in the Korean market.

During the day the MIT students were given a full tour of YG building. They toured YG labs, studios and practice facilities. They were also given a Q&A session in which the students discussed the future international activities of YG’s artists.

A participant, Robbie Huang commented, “It is fantastic that YG as an in-house producer has able to create a fresh sound and extensive catalog of songs. Through this visit, the globalization of K-Pop was fully realized.” Sharing is sexy
