Although geographically distant, Korean pop – or K-pop- has conquered a legion of fans in South America. At the beginning of this month, the trio JYJ, formed by Jaejoong, Yoochun and Junsu, performed two concerts in the region: on 9th in Chile and on 11th in Peru.
According to the Peruvian newspaper El Comercio, “the reaction from the Peruvian fans was bigger than the one shown with Britney Spears, Black Eyed Peas and Avril Lavigne”.
JYJ, formed in 2010, got the participation of the rapper Kanye West in the song “Ayyy Girl”, in their international debut album, The Beginning, released the same year.
Their international tour started in Bangkok,Thailand, in April last year and it ended in Peru this month. The trio toured 15 cities around the world  and they performed for 210 thousand fans. JYJ was also the first K-Pop group to perform in Spain, Germany, Chile and Peru.
“We are shocked by the amount of fans who came to the airport and to the hotel. We thought that was only possible in Asia, we did not expect to feel the same love in South America”, Yoochun said during a press conference in Chile.
“Being able to meet our fans from Asia, Europa, North America and South America made it really look like a world tour, in every sense of the word”, the group said.
JYJ are preparing themselves to release their second album in English. Meanwhile, the singers are giving priority to their individual activities. Yoochun and Jaejoong intend to act, while Junsu has musical plans.
