The main actors of MBC’s new weekend drama ‘Dr.Jin’ are at war of screen-time.
After ‘Feast of the Gods’, ‘Dr.Jin’ will have its first airing on May 26th. In the original Japanese manga, Song Seunghun’s character leads the drama alone but in ‘Dr.Jin’, Kim Jaejoong and Lee Bumsoo’s characters are more interesting. Kim Jaejoong will play Kim Kyungtak, a naval officer of Joseon Dynasty and Lee Bumsoo will play Lee Haeung, a soldier of fortune who is known as Heungseon Daewongun.
The drama will have more various characters than the original but the problem is that all the three male leads were even ‘one-top’ in other drama (one-top: actor/actress who take the leading role, who is responsible for the overall flow of the drama/movie), it’s not easy to regulate the screen-time. In addition, Park Minyoung will also play a dual role, which makes the screen-time war become fiercer.
An official explained, “Normally, if a drama has four male and female leading roles, only two of them are highlighted but in ‘Dr.Jin’, all four roles are equally important. This is an invisible fight for the actors in order to highlight their characters. We can’t focus on just one of them."
Another related person said, “Park Minyoung, Song Seunghun and Kim Jaejoong will form a triangle love. Although the love-line focuses on these three, I think Lee Bumsoo’s character also has a very large proportion.”

A man vs man showdown will unfold in television dramas this coming May 26. SBS’s A Gentleman’s Dignity and MBC’s Time Slip Dr Jin (hereafter Dr Jin) will be pitted against each other in the same time slot. It will lead to a competition of top male star appeal. A Gentleman’s Dignity will star Jang Dong-gun, Kim Soo-ro, Kim Min Jong and Lee Jong Hyuk while Song Seung-heon, Lee Bum Soo and Kim Jaejoong will be starring in Dr Jin.
As it is not the domination of just one top male star, it is a rare attack on the mainstream weekend television screen since several of them will be appearing in dramas together. The first broadcast of A Gentleman’s Dignity will begin on May 26, after the conclusion of Dummy Mummy. Dr Jin will also be shown on May 26 after the conclusion of Feast of Gods.

Dr Jin will be based on an original Japanese manga production by Murakami Motoka. It is different medical drama where the best South Korean surgeon in 2012 travels through time and space and arrives in 1860 Joseon era. Hallyu star Song Seung-heon will play Jin Hyuk, the genius doctor who leaps back 150 years into time. JYJ’s Kim Jaejoong will play the best military officer in Joseon Kim Kyung Tak, who comes from a military family. “Box office invincible” actor Kim Bum Soo will take on his first Sageuk acting challenge as Lee Ha-eung, a person who seizes every opportunity that comes his way. His character is based on a historial character Heungseon Daewongun. Kim Jaejoong in his 20s, Song Seung-heon in his 30s and Lee Bum Soo in his 40s will each represent their generations. MBC’s new weekend drama “Dr. Jin’s” first broadcast is confirmed to be broadcast on May 26th. As a take on the original ‘Dr. Jin,’ (which was created by manga artist Murakami Motoka in Japan as a 10-year serialized comic strip) the 2012 medical drama is about a doctor that travels through time and space and arrives in Joseon era 1860 where he faces a lot of struggles. In 2009, Japan broadcast station TBS aired a drama version of Dr. Jin as well and it received high popularity.
In this new drama, a modern day doctor will transcend time and space and slip into the past. There, he will begin to conduct medical activities and meet important historical people of that time. Actor Song Seung Hun will play the character “Jin Hyuk,” the genius doctor who transcends through time and space. JYJ’s Kim Jaejoong will play the character Kim Kyung Tak, Joseon’s best soldier.
Along with Song Seung Hun and Kim Jaejoong, the drama will star “box-office invincible” actor Lee Bum Soo, who will play the character Lee Ha-eung in the Joseon era. He will be a soldier of fortune who hide his status. He also has strong desire for power and ambition. Lee Ha-eung has strong desire for power and ambition and puts his second son Myeongbok to the throne. This is a real character of history known as Heungseon Daewongun. When Lee Bum Soo saw the synopsis for “Dr. Jin” he said that he was slightly nervous because it would be his first historical drama. He believes that the drama is a good piece of work and that he feels that he has a responsibility to viewers. Thus, he wishes to create a good drama.

The production is in the thick of not one, but two lawsuits.
Lawsuit 1: Dr. Jin is suing Faith for plagiarism. Its argument is that Faith is plagiarizing the Goryeo-era time-traveling doctor bit right out of their script, for which Dr. Jin has very clear source material–the Japanese manga of the same name. I can see why they’re up in arms about it, since Faith didn’t reveal its time travel storyline until very recently, when the casting was in place. But uh… Faith has been in pre-production for YEARS, and with an A-list writer like Song Ji-nah (Sandglass, Legend) penning the script, I can’t imagine this case will hold any water in the end.
Lawsuit 2: Time Slip (Yigim Pictures) is being sued for THEIR writer, Han Ji-hoon (Road No. 1, Time Between Dog and Wolf), by production company Apple Tree Pictures. Apple is arguing that Han is a staff writer for them, and is breaching contract by penning a script for Yigim.
And then in the midst of all that behind-the-scenes drama, the production has decided to premiere SOONER. (Is it possible that all the time-travel drama has gone to their heads?) Maybe it’s an attempt to get it on the air before their writer gets yanked off the production due to legal battles. In any case, now Dr. Jin is set to air against Jang Dong-gun‘s upcoming drama, A Gentleman’s Dignity. Talk about gunning for top dog. I guess they decided to hell with story, let’s just go hottie for hottie.
So now Time Slip Dr. Jin (MBC) and A Gentleman’s Dignity (SBS) both premiere May 26. Let the battle of the Hottest 90s Oppa begin.

n the 16th, MBC officials stated that their special planning committee decided this weekend that the new MBC drama “Time Slip Dr. Jin” starring Song Seung Heon and Kim Jaejoong would become the successor to “Feast of Gods” and have its first broadcast on May 26th. The drama “May Queen” which originally was supposed to take this spot has been postponed.
Accordingly, ‘Time Slip Dr. Jin’ will be in direct competition with Jang Dong Gun’s SBS drama “Gentleman’s Dignity”. These dramas will both be weekend dramas that will air at the same time. Additionally, both will start broadcast on May 26th. Because Song Seung Heon and Jang Dong Gun are both extremely popular celebrities, there is expected to be a large battle between the two [for ratings].
‘Time Slip Dr. Jin’ is based on the highly successful Japanese comic series “JIN” and tells the story of a modern age physician who goes back in time to the Joseon era. Song Seung Heon and Kim Jaejoong will take the place as the two lead male roles.
