Weekly Series Highlights the Hottest Trends in Asian Pop Entertainment,
from the Latest Music to Food, Fashion and Art
WHAT: Mnet, the leading U.S. television network for Asian Americans and fans of Asian pop culture, launches season two of Beats Per Mnet (BPM) on April 18 with a new look, new hosts Jelynn Sophia and TK Nguyen and new production partners, Cashmere Agency (MTV’s (Volcano High, Dogg After Dark and Snoop Dogg’s Fatherhood on E!). The series, airing Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT, continues to guide viewers to what’s hot in Asian pop entertainment, from the latest music to food, fashion and art.
Viewers will not want to miss the season premiere featuring an exclusive interview between married Korean hip hop artists Tiger JK of Drunken Tiger and Yoon Mi Rae (Tasha), during a brand new segment, “Artist x Artist,” which features celebrities interviewing each other. Other artist appearances include Brent Rollins, DJ Qbert, RZA, Jeff Staple, Reyes, and Raka. Also featured on BPM this season are Kendrick Lamar, Airplane Boys and a cameo by Snoop Dogg. New recurring segments include “Best of the Best,” following celebrities in search of the best in food, fashion and parties and Angry Asian James Koo’s, “Rant Radio” giving viewers a unique and exclusive look at what drives Asian pop culture in America.
Both new hosts, Jelynn Sophia and TK Nguyen, are originally from San Diego. Jelynn is known for hosting on numerous networks such as the TV Guide Channel, AMC, Altitude TV and Disney/ABC’s Soapnet.com and TK was discovered during Mnet’s VJ contest last year. New production partner Cashmere Agency brings to the show an expertise in understanding lifestyle culture, the multicultural movement and what resonates with the youth market.

On April 12th, cable channel Mnet released a promotional video for the upcoming large-scale Japan concert tour “M! Countdown Hello Japan”.
“M! Countdown Hello Japan” will be held in Saitama Super Arena Japan on April 26th. The tour will be the third since the first concert in Tokyo in 2006. Artists set to appear in the event include Yoon Mirae, miss A, 4Minute, SISTAR, Tiger JK, FT Island, MBLAQ, U-Kiss and Busker Busker along with Japanese acts.
There will be special stages by historical #1 winner artists of M Countdown as well. This event is co-produced by Mnet and Japan’s Space Shower TV.

Hello. We’re Urban Electro Band NU’EST. Yes~Thank you for congratulating 뉴이스트(NU’EST)’s 1st debut. Finally! We, 뉴이스트(NU’EST)가 can present you our debut album [FACE]. Q. You have the nickname, “After School Boys”! We’re curious which After School noonas that treat you well the most.
The noonas treat us well just like a blood-related little brother, They often come to our practice room and bought us a delicious food. They also give us an advice.^^
Baek Ho U-ie noona personally give me the name ‘Baekho’, and she always supports us.
Ren Because me and Lizzy noona came from Busan, So she treat me well. She also came to MV filming site with Raina and Nana noona to support us.
JR Not only After School Noonas, Dambi Noona also treat us well , Despite her tight schedules, she came to our jacket photoshoot shite and bought us delicious food, She told us to cheer up and give us a support.
Q. We’re curious how NU’EST member’s Casting story. How did you casted?
Minhyun My dream since i was young is to be a singer, When i was walking to school, I get casted and i can reach my dream now.
Ren Since I was young, i really want to be a singer. It was raining when i came to Seoul. I came to the office and the (staff) said I can’t do the audition that day. But i said, I came from far place but because the (staff) with a pitiable eyes, the staff finally let me do the audition .
JR My hometown is in Kangwon-do, Kangreung. It’s a far place from Seoul, so I never think about being a singer. But when i was going to school, I get casted. I’m so puzzled but i feel happy so i told my father about it. At first, he was against. But because a Noona who casted me said to him that I appeared on her dream, standing on a big stage; he give me a permission . My father dream actually is to be a singer. Now my father give me a lot of support.
Baek Ho I was accompanied my friend to go to audition, but then i get casted. I accidentally get casted, but then i can reach my dream now.
Aron When i was in US, I saw Dambi Noona’s ‘Crazy’ Video, And i thought it’s so attractive. I heard that Pledis are going to do an audition on US, So i immediately join the audition. I passed, and ranked 1st and now i can be a singer.
Q. We’re so curious about NU’EST Music style, and which Musicians do you like.
You can’t find 뉴이스트(NU’EST)’s Anywhere, Because 뉴이스트(NU’EST) made the new style of music!
Q. Your role model?
Minhyun Eric Benet On our agency office, i practiced Ericbenet’s ‘still with you’ , and when i listen to the song, It’s a good song.
Ren Michael Jackson He can perfectly dancing and singing, I like him since i was young, and he’ll be my role model forever.
JR Eminem At first, no one accepted him, But because his hard work, People accepted him now . Seems like he’s a cool man.
Baek Ho DBSK The sunbaenims are so powerful, and they showed up a great performance. We also want to show up powerful performance.
Aron Anthony Hamilton Since i was young, I enjoy listening to Anthony Hamilton’s songs. Anthony Hamilton’s charisma, his vocal is the best.

Cable channel Mnet’s music ranking program, "M! Countdown", will be holding Japan concert tour in April.
According to Mnet on March 1st, the program will hold a large-scale concert, titled "M! Countdown Hello Japan" in Saitama Super Arena on April 25. The tour will be the third since the first concert in Tokyo in 2006 with artists such as Lee Hyori, TVXQ, and Shinhwa to mark the opening of Mnet Japan. The second concert was held in 2007 and toured Tokyo with artists Shin Seung Hoon, Big Bang and more.
Mnet will be joining forces with Japan's first and largest music channel, Space Shower TV, in order to create this music celebration event. Expectations are big for the synergy effect of Korea and Japan’s largest music channels coming to work together.
The "M! Countdown Hello Japan Tour" is a way for Mnet to repay the Japanese fans for all the love they have shown ‘M! Countdown’ since Mnet first established Mnet Japan in 2006. The tour boasts a diverse lineup for the first portion, currently including MBLAQ, F.T. Island and Supernova.
A representative of Mnet also hinted, "Please look forward to our secondary lineup, which will feature more artists popular in both Korea and Japan."
"M Countdown Hello Japan" will be broadcast not only in Korea, but various Asian regions through channels such as Mnet, Space Shower TV, Mnet Japan, tvN Asia and more.
