Tony An wrapped up his involvement as a temporary member of the boy band Smash, which he created back in 2008. The collaboration, which went by the name “Tony & SMASH,” performed for the last time on SBS’ “Inkigayo” on April 8.
On the following day, TN Entertainment stated that Tony has put an end to performing with the band and will concentrate on music production for the time being.
Earlier this month, Tony An alarmed fans by mentioning
thoughts of retiring from the entertainment industry, due to the lackluster response to his collaboration with his idol group. Despite his remark, TN Entertainment said that Tony has no plans to retire just yet.
An official from TN Entertainment stated, “Tony An will be focusing on his career more as SMASH's producer than a solo performer. His main goal is to improve SMASH's awareness and help the group to become more popular. But he is still open to the idea of performing himself, and would love to be on stage again if the right opportunity comes along.”

Former H.O.T member Tony An has made a shocking confession that he is considering retiring from the music scene.
Tony An, who has been busy promoting with Tony An & SMASH, was recently guest-featured on KBS’ ‘Do Dream’ where he honestly shared his current dilemma.
The singer revealed, “Before releasing the record, the public seemed really interested in the project group. There were many articles written about it and became a heavily searched term online, but after releasing the track, it seems that there isn't very much support.”
“I seriously started to think that maybe the public doesn’t want me anymore, and that maybe it’s time for me to retire as a singer”, he added.
The full episode of Tony Ahn’s debate about retirement will be unveiled on April 7.

Singer
Tony An appeared on
KBS’s “
Star Life Theater” on February 27, where he opened up about the criticism he and his two fellow
H.O.T members faced when they formed the new group
JTL in 2001.
The 33-year-old singer and CEO of
TN Entertainment said that the time spent post-H.O.T was the most difficult in his entire life.
After the disbandment of the 1990s hit idol band, An, along with group members
Jang Woo-hyuk and
Lee Jae-won, created JTL.
However, the public was less than impressed, and the trio became the target for online public ridicule, which hurt An and stayed with him for a long time.
“They called us deadbeats and questioned what we would actually do since they claimed we had no talent or skills. Questions like ‘Who’s going to sing?’ and ‘What will they do?’ were rampant,” An said.
To prove the critics wrong, An spent time relearning everything about being a performer.
“I started from scratch, learning the basics from singing to dancing. I was determined to succeed more than ever,” An said.
Then, just three years after the band’s debut, An decided to focus on his solo career. He said that he noticed he had become performance-focused and materialistic, possibly from overworking in the past. It was after this realization that the multitalented entertainer decided to give it all up to complete his military service.

We
reported earlier that legendary idol group
H.O.T might be returning to the limelight and releasing an album under their former label,
SM Entertainment. However, members
Tony An and
Jang Woo Hyuk have opposed the rumors with their recent tweets.
On December 13th, Tony An expressed his unawareness and wrote on his Twitter, "Lots of people are excited about our random reunion rumors.. Can someone explain to me what this is all about?"
Fellow member Jang Woo Hyuk also said, "What? What? What is going on? How is this going to happen ~~ ^^"
Earlier, it has been reported that the idol group has plans of a comeback, but details still need to be figured out. During
Moon Hee-jun's appearance on an
OBS cable TV program, he said that the members have all agreed to negotiate with
Lee Soo-man, CEO of their former label SM Entertainment. He also revealed about their agreement on releasing an album under SM Entertainment.
Every year, H.O.T. has been chosen as the #1 idol group that fans would like to see reunified. This time however, it seems that fans may have to wait a little longer yet again.
