In the latest first recording of cable channel KBS JOY’s ‘The Chair Korea Season 2’, Niel pointed out that his ideal type now isn’t the same celebrity from before; to MC Shin Dongup’s ‘In reality, which noona celebrity makes your heart race when you see her?”
Niel reckons that actress Nam Sungmi is the closest to his ideal type of usual pretty lady whom are kind and has a gentle smile. But on that day’s recording, there was a change and he confessed that it is no longer Nam Sungmi but another celebrity that causes his heart to race when he sees her.

Group TEEN TOP and Stellar are groups who are deeply connected to SHINHWA. The group that Andy produced, TEEN TOP has been gaining great popularity with ‘Crazy’. And the group Stellar which Eric produced has recently underwent member changes and is currently promoting ‘U.F.O’
TEEN TOP has been capturing the hearts of fans in their 10s and 20s. And Stellar consists of 4 females in their 10s and 20s. So we threw them the question. So what can SHINHWA do in order to capture the hearts of young fans?
At the waiting room of a music broadcast, met up with TEEN TOP and they revealed “Before the Lunar New Year holidays, we participated in with Andy hyung and he said “If you can’t do it, you won’t be able to return to the dormitory” Actually it seems like Hyung is tired of running he told us ‘I’m not like what I was before. You guys go do it’
Following which TEEN TOP advised that “There’s nothing that can beat bbuing bbuing these days. In order to capture the hearts of young fans, show them a ‘bbuing bbuing’ with your hands on your cheeks.”

V.G.: It’s a dance song, but the lyrics are sorrowful. You wouldn’t have had many experiences with relationships, so was it hard to express your feelings?
Changjo: These weren’t lyrics that were hard to understand.
Chunji: We thought of emotions we felt through indirect experiences such as movies, dramas, books, etc.

The hottest boy group… Their secret to winning the hearts of females?
Winning their first 1st place on terrestrial music programmes after their debut with ‘Crazy’. Their powerful dance and pretty boy smiles are making the hearts of females flutter. “9 hours of dance practice a day… Just by looking at one another’s eyes we know what to do OK”
Recently in the music industry, ‘perfectly synced dance’ has become a topic of discussion. An idol group with perfectly synced dance means that the members dance the same actions without any margin of error.
6 member male group TEEN TOP (C.A.P Niel Ricky L.Joe Changjo Chunji) has been receiving attention with their perfectly synced dance. Their average age when they first debuted in July 2010 was 16.3 (Korean age). Music fans gave the rookie group high praises for their ‘perfectly synced dance’ which had the members executing the precise moves with strength without any margin of error. TEEN TOP also does think that their charm is their perfectly synced dance.
In order to achieve the fanciful perfectly synced dance for the performance, exactly how much sweat and practice had gone into it. With the immense amount of practice before going on stage, it is the reason for the perfection of the dance.
Having released their new song ‘Crazy’ in January and are currently out their promotional activities; even till then they had been matching their dances 9 hours a day for 3 months. Their debut track ‘Clap’ took more than 10 hours a day for 5 months. Now they are able to match their dances just by exchanging glances.
They are still hot-blooded adolescences; so you can imagine that they can get rather hot tempered and quarrel with one another after spending every day at the practice studio matching their dances.
But after their 3rd single ‘No More Perfume On You’, they seemed to be more understanding of one another. In baseball terms, it’s called ‘chemistry’. While they may have had conflicts while in the process of perfectly syncing their dance, they resolve it through talking it out, believing and helping one another; it holds great meaning as they set the foundation similar their role models, the longest running group SHINHWA.

TEEN TOP has risen up to their first 1st place after debut on terrestrial music programmes in the first week of February. The fans have shown their support and TEEN TOP has been called the ‘in-trend idols’ ‘influential idols’.
However there has been the influx of long planned male idol groups from large entertainment companies this year like B.A.P, EXO, NUEST etc. It is not the time for TEEN TOP to let their guard down nor be comforted by the fans’ love and their position as the music industry’s trend and influential figures.
While catching up with the forerunners Big Bang, Beast, Mblaq, they are being pursued by new juniors who appear, making them sandwiched in between. TEEN TOP shows their readiness to sweat even more “We believe that the sweat we put in will not betray us”
“We know that we’re in the middle, in an ambiguous generation. Knowing that fact clearly we have sweat even more, we want to do show our own colours. It’s also good that we’re in the middle. We can emulate the success of the seniors and there’s competition from the rookies. We’re determined to not lose out to any of our juniors”
TEEN TOP is also preparing for their overseas advancement. Starting with Japan which gave them a good response, they are exploring the other areas in Asia. They have already held two rounds of fanmeetings in Japan last year and they are expected to hold their fanmeeting in Taiwan in March.
“We have won 1st place, we’re going overseas, but nothing has changed about us. We’re still what we are, we’re always rookies (mindset). We only believe in the sweat.”

In order to achieve the fanciful perfectly synced dance for the performance, exactly how much sweat and practice had gone into it. With the immense amount of practice before going on stage, it is the reason for the perfection of the dance.
Having released their new song ‘Crazy’ in January and are currently out their promotional activities; even till then they had been matching their dances 9 hours a day for 3 months. We’ve already performed ‘Crazy’ over a 100 times. There was once we danced it 30 times in a day but now we’re used to those kind of situations. “We didn’t. We still do not have to take a break. We want to be even more tired out. Our company gave us a day off during the Lunar New Year. We all went to catch the movies, “Face Maker” “Mission Impossible 4” “Perfect Game” “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island”; no member watched the same movie.” (Ricky)

“Maybe it’s because we’ve worked with Bang Shihyuk, Brave Brothers sunsaengnims. They have been of great help to reach our current position. In the future when we become even more successful, we want to return the kindness.” (L.Joe)

“Recently I had goosebumps while watching Block B’s music video. Their style is really cool. The members are already involved in writing their own songs. We have to learn from them their diligence. I think we’ll be able to hear our L.Joe’s compositions maybe next year in our album.” (C.A.P)
-You’ve achieved the 1st place on music programmes you have dreamt of. What’s your next goal.
“We want to win a bonsang at the year-end ceremonies. After we solidify our position in Korea, we are thinking of official Japanese activities. Now we can gather 5000 people for our performances. We’ll work harder even more; we really want to fill up 50,000 seats at the Tokyo Dome.” (Chunji)
TEEN TOP won 1st place on SBS ‘Inkigayo’ which was broadcasted on the 5th, with the title track of their 2nd mini album ‘It’s’, Crazy, thus claiming the mutizen song. They won consecutively twice as they won their very first 1st place in 1 year and 7 months since debut on KBS 2TV ‘Music Bank’ on the 3rd. Their name is slowly being known overseas; in Japan they are already receiving the treatment of Hallyu stars. After being produced by SHINHWA’s Andy in 2010, they have become one of the music industry’s rising star and they seem to bearing fruits of their labour this year. -You guys have earned the nickname of the ‘in-trend’ idols.
“It’s too generous of a compliment. We’re still far from it so we’ll work even harder so that we can truly become the trend in the music industry. We like the nickname of ‘Earth idols’. The fans gave us this name hoping that we’ll be able to go global.” (C.A.P)
-You guys are known for your perfectly synced dance. How much did you guys practise?
For ‘Crazy’ we spent 9 hours a day for 3 months just dancing. But we’re still lacking. Even now when our schedule for the day ends, we’ll spend another 2 hours at the practice studio to practise before sleeping. It is important that we don’t quarrel amongst ourselves. We need to be on good terms so that the choreography will look good. In the beginning we really had alot of quarrels. But now after understanding one another’s personalities, we don’t do things that will make us quarrel.” (Niel)
-Wasn’t it tiring because of the perfectly synced dance
We’ve already performed ‘Crazy’ over a 100 times. There was once we danced it 30 times in a day but now we’re used to those kind of situations. More importantly it’s the burden that comes along with it. When we make a comeback, the fans will see the choreography first. It isn’t easy always trying to exceed expectations.” (Ricky)
-Your popularity in Japan is quite amazing
“We have still yet to officially debut there but there are many people who like us. The first time we went to Japan there were many fans at the airport. We’re so surprised that our jaws dropped. Last december we held a fanmeeting and 5000 people came. Because there weren’t enough seats we had to add another show.” (Changjo)
-The way to capture the hearts of the Japanese fans.
“We held a ‘hi touch session’ in Japan, while we did high fives we added ‘Ha ya’. I think they’ll never forget once they touched our hands.” (Niel)
-The most memorable fan.
“The Japanese fans are of a diverse age range. There were fans who were couples; and grandfathers, grandmothers. There was once male fan who dressed up as Super Mario at the fanmeeting and not too long ago we met again in Korea. He dressed up as Super Mario again and he told us he came to

6 member idol group ‘TEEN TOP’ has emerged as the new athletic idolsWith the 2010 Chuseok special as the start, at the 4th MBC ‘Idol Star Athletics Swimming Competition (ISASC) TEEN TOP swept both 1st and 2nd positions at the men’s high jump event, attracting the attention of the fans.
Before the start of the competition, Ricky (real name Yoo Changhyun, 16) was one of the likely candidates to win the high jump event. From before Ricky has displayed outstanding athletic skills, hence he was able to reach the finals. Although it had seemed like Ricky was going to win the high jump event but in this competition, he had to give the winning spot to team member Niel who has risen as an ‘athletic idol’
After ISASC, Donga.com sat down with TEEN TOP and carried out an idol group like interview revealing their after thoughts.
“A lot of people have expected me to win 1st place so it was a pity that I couldn’t. I was one of the likely winning candidates at the high jump event, but I lost to Niel hyung. Even I really thought that I was going to win 1st place… After the competition ended, because of my competitive streak I couldn’t calm myself down but I’m feeling better now. Next time when we have to do high jump again, I can lose to anyone else but I definitely must Niel hyung. Still I’m very happy that TEEN TOP was able to win both 1st and 2nd places.” (Ricky)
“I’m really happy that I won. Andy hyung who is from the same company as us, said that he would grant us a wish if we came in top 2 in any event. Although a win is very important, I’m looking forward to the wish more. Through this competition it was the first time I’ve seen the TEEN TOP members so happy. I really want to see our even happier faces when we win 1st place on music programmes. (Niel)”
Chunji and Changjo shared “We didn’t practise specifically for it but as all our members like sports originally, we thought that maybe if we tried hard enough we’ll achieve good results. Ricky has always had good jump power so we were really looking forward to the high jump event.
Although we made finals for swimming and sprints, it was a pity that we were not within the ranks”
Andy promised the members that he would grant them a wish if they achieved outstanding results at high jump; the members all wished for massages on a regular basis. Seemingly unmatching for their young age, the reason why they wanted massages was because they liked it.
On the other hand, TEEN TOP has been carrying out exciting activities for their title track ‘Crazy’ from their 2nd mini album which was released on the 5th.

Borrowed as a prop, the ‘screen touch DJ mixer’ worth 10s of millions of won, he played with it easilylike a toy which made the surrounding staff panic

Niel tried out the hair perm as the hidden card to fully show the hip hop ‘feel’. The main set of the music video was that of a backstreet, it was TEEN TOP’s stage to dance. The only unrealistic thing in the backstreet? The yellow sports car that is protruding out of the wall.. The members were wondering when they could ride on it but they couldn’t as it was used as a prop to lit up the backstreet.

Ah! The staffs were vigorously adding smoke into the garage. To film the cool scene of walking out of the smoke, they had to hold their breaths. You could hear the director’s voice from afar “TEEN TOP~ Are you still alive? We’ll add more smoke in~ It’s cool! So we’ll add more in and start again!” Yes! If the director thinks it’s cool then we definitely won’t mind breathing the smoke in!

Part 1 of 2 (Interview / Fan Meeting Report)
Teen Top made girls weak in the knees across Asia with the devilish glances they cast in “No More Perfume on You.” Steamy with youthful bang appeal, they came to Japan for the “Talk & Live” event! We hit up the six members, who despite their average age of 17.3 years old, are transforming into “grown-up men.”
By winning the Newcomers Award, their 2011 goals were achieved!
» By releasing the hit song “Supa Luv” followed by another hit, “No More Perfume on You,” last year was a good one, wasn’t it! What kind of year was 2011 for all of you?
Chunji: I think it was a really meaningful year! As the group Teen Top, we were able to become known to many people through “No More Perfume on You” and we were also able to win the Korean Entertainment Arts Newcomers Award! Also, our fan club “Angel” was established, bringing Angels together!
» Did you achieve the goals that you set for yourselves in 2011?
Niel: We had the goal of wanting to win the Newcomers Award, so it was a perfect success!
» Congratulations! Well then, could you all please tell us any important personal news taking place in 2011?
C.A.P.: I was able to enter university. As I’ve turned 20 in Korean age, I think I’ll probably become more grown-up from here on.
Chunji: I’ve always been totally hot, but I got even hotter!
Ricky: Where? (laughs)
Chunji: If I’d been good-looking in a youthful way before, I think I became good-looking in a more manly way in 2011.
Changjo: For one thing, I got a lot taller! My goal height is 183 centimeters, and I think I’m going to keep growing more and more.
Ricky: For me, I had a baby-face, but my face is gradually losing its chubbiness and I’ve become more grown-up looking. Maybe it was also good that I put my bangs [fringe] up. (laughs)
Niel: My voice finished changing!
L.Joe: I made my debut as a rapper in “No More Perfume on You.” I think I’ll be able to to keep showing you my rapping from here on out.
» In “No More Perfume on You,” you sing about the feelings of a guy who’s two-timing with his same-aged girlfriend and an older girlfriend. Though we think the young guy in these lyrics is familiar with a girl’s mind, are all of you the type who understands girls’ feelings?
L.Joe: We have pretty much no experience with dating, so we don’t know anything about girls………
Niel: We were just acting to match the lyrics of the song!
» In that case, what is it about girls that you don’t understand?
Chunji: Sometimes girls, regardless of whether they’re younger or older, suddenly get sulky, right? Or they get angry. Even though we didn’t mean to do anything bad…. I don’t understand that.
» If they are grumpy with you, how do you handle it?
Chunji: I cover for it with aegyo! (laughs)
Changjo: Cutely take advantage!
» The girls who get hit with your aegyo are going to be completely taken out (laughs). On the other side, what thing is it that “girls just don’t understand about guys”?
C.A.P.: If a girl is going out with a guy, they ascertain (the guy’s feelings) by hearing them say the words “I love you,” don’t they? But there are guys who just can’t express their feelings of love in words. It would be nice if they understood more that it feels embarrassing (laughs)
» That makes sense. But Korean guys have the image, in comparison to Japanese guys, that they will just unabashedly say “sarang hae.”
Niel: It’s different from person to person! There are plenty of guys who can’t say it, too! (laughs)
Ricky: I’m timid, so I couldn’t say it……..
Changjo: I think Chunji and L.Joe could say it well. C.A.P. hyung should be good at it too!
L.Joe: I think I’m the best at confessions of love ♥
Niel plays terrible pranks!?
» Please tell us about the dorm. What’s the latest room arrangement?
Ricky: Right now it’s me and Niel, Changjo-L.Joe-Chunji in the same room, and C.A.P. sleeps by himself in the living room.
L.Joe: We put the two who do nothing but prank the others (Ricky and Niel) in the same room (laughs)
Changjo: C.A.P. hyung can’t fall asleep when there’s somebody around him, so he’s by himself.
» Are there any rules you absolutely must follow in the dorm?
L.Joe: It’s free. There aren’t any rules.
Chunji: When there’s practice or a schedule the next day, to make everything go smoothly we go to sleep early the day before….. we do have that kind of limitation.
» In your (Teen Top On Air) video, L.Joe and C.A.P. had a speed-cola-drinking contest, didn’t you. Do you guys always have fun having these kinds of ridiculous contests?
L.Joe: Speed-cola-drinking is totally not ridiculous!
Chunji: I feel like we mess around and play pranks on each other at least ten times in one day.
Niel: Having fun like this pranking each other might be the magic ingredient that makes us good friends! (laughs)
» Have there been any extreme pranks recently?
Niel: On C.A.P. hyung’s birthday we celebrated by tying up both of his hands and legs, whacking him and rolling him around!
Chunji: Right, right, to the very end we wouldn’t untie the rope, we just left him in the practice room like a log and went home (laughs)
C.A.P.: They’re horrible….. I crawled out of the practice room and somehow got out of the rope and escaped….
» (laughing) So is C.A.P. hyung the easiest to play pranks on?

» Who’s the biggest bully?
Chunji: Niel is terrible.
Ricky: When I’m taking a shower, Niel will suddenly turn off the lights or throw cold water on me. Seriously, stop! (laughs)
» Has anybody gotten seriously angry after being pranked?
Niel: Never! We enjoy being pranked, because the next time we’ll get back at them with something similar (laughs)
» It seems like every day is fun. When do you feel glad to be a member of Teen Top?
Ricky: When we can meet Angels at fan meetings, I feel really glad to be a member of Teen Top!
L.Joe: That’s true. I’m happiest when all of us stand on stage together.
» Please tell us your goal for this year.
Chunji: First, we want to get a #1 on a music program with our comeback this month!
Ricky: #1! #1!
C.A.P.: We also want to be on stage in Japan many times in 2012. While we’re doing our best with promotions in Korea, we also want to increase the frequency of our visits to Japan.

Teen Top made girls weak in the knees across Asia with the devilish glances they cast in “No More Perfume on You.” Steamy with youthful bang appeal, they came to Japan for the “Talk & Live” event! We hit up the six members, who despite their average age of 17.3 years old, are transforming into “grown-up men.”
By winning the Newcomers Award, their 2011 goals were achieved!
» By releasing the hit song “Supa Luv” followed by another hit, “No More Perfume on You,” last year was a good one, wasn’t it! What kind of year was 2011 for all of you?
Chunji: I think it was a really meaningful year! As the group Teen Top, we were able to become known to many people through “No More Perfume on You” and we were also able to win the Korean Entertainment Arts Newcomers Award! Also, our fan club “Angel” was established, bringing Angels together!
» Did you achieve the goals that you set for yourselves in 2011?
Niel: We had the goal of wanting to win the Newcomers Award, so it was a perfect success!
» Congratulations! Well then, could you all please tell us any important personal news taking place in 2011?
C.A.P.: I was able to enter university. As I’ve turned 20 in Korean age, I think I’ll probably become more grown-up from here on.
Chunji: I’ve always been totally hot, but I got even hotter!
Ricky: Where? (laughs)
Chunji: If I’d been good-looking in a youthful way before, I think I became good-looking in a more manly way in 2011.
Changjo: For one thing, I got a lot taller! My goal height is 183 centimeters, and I think I’m going to keep growing more and more.
Ricky: For me, I had a baby-face, but my face is gradually losing its chubbiness and I’ve become more grown-up looking. Maybe it was also good that I put my bangs [fringe] up. (laughs)
Niel: My voice finished changing!
L.Joe: I made my debut as a rapper in “No More Perfume on You.” I think I’ll be able to to keep showing you my rapping from here on out.
» In “No More Perfume on You,” you sing about the feelings of a guy who’s two-timing with his same-aged girlfriend and an older girlfriend. Though we think the young guy in these lyrics is familiar with a girl’s mind, are all of you the type who understands girls’ feelings?
L.Joe: We have pretty much no experience with dating, so we don’t know anything about girls………
Niel: We were just acting to match the lyrics of the song!
» In that case, what is it about girls that you don’t understand?
Chunji: Sometimes girls, regardless of whether they’re younger or older, suddenly get sulky, right? Or they get angry. Even though we didn’t mean to do anything bad…. I don’t understand that.
» If they are grumpy with you, how do you handle it?
Chunji: I cover for it with aegyo! (laughs)
Changjo: Cutely take advantage!
» The girls who get hit with your aegyo are going to be completely taken out (laughs). On the other side, what thing is it that “girls just don’t understand about guys”?
C.A.P.: If a girl is going out with a guy, they ascertain (the guy’s feelings) by hearing them say the words “I love you,” don’t they? But there are guys who just can’t express their feelings of love in words. It would be nice if they understood more that it feels embarrassing (laughs)
» That makes sense. But Korean guys have the image, in comparison to Japanese guys, that they will just unabashedly say “sarang hae.”
Niel: It’s different from person to person! There are plenty of guys who can’t say it, too! (laughs)
Ricky: I’m timid, so I couldn’t say it……..
Changjo: I think Chunji and L.Joe could say it well. C.A.P. hyung should be good at it too!
L.Joe: I think I’m the best at confessions of love ♥
Niel plays terrible pranks!?
» Please tell us about the dorm. What’s the latest room arrangement?
Ricky: Right now it’s me and Niel, Changjo-L.Joe-Chunji in the same room, and C.A.P. sleeps by himself in the living room.
L.Joe: We put the two who do nothing but prank the others (Ricky and Niel) in the same room (laughs)
Changjo: C.A.P. hyung can’t fall asleep when there’s somebody around him, so he’s by himself.
» Are there any rules you absolutely must follow in the dorm?
L.Joe: It’s free. There aren’t any rules.
Chunji: When there’s practice or a schedule the next day, to make everything go smoothly we go to sleep early the day before….. we do have that kind of limitation.
» In your (Teen Top On Air) video, L.Joe and C.A.P. had a speed-cola-drinking contest, didn’t you. Do you guys always have fun having these kinds of ridiculous contests?
L.Joe: Speed-cola-drinking is totally not ridiculous!
Chunji: I feel like we mess around and play pranks on each other at least ten times in one day.
Niel: Having fun like this pranking each other might be the magic ingredient that makes us good friends! (laughs)
» Have there been any extreme pranks recently?
Niel: On C.A.P. hyung’s birthday we celebrated by tying up both of his hands and legs, whacking him and rolling him around!
Chunji: Right, right, to the very end we wouldn’t untie the rope, we just left him in the practice room like a log and went home (laughs)
C.A.P.: They’re horrible….. I crawled out of the practice room and somehow got out of the rope and escaped….
» (laughing) So is C.A.P. hyung the easiest to play pranks on?

This music video is already leading as the most-watched video’. Leitura Dinamica is a popular entertainment news program in various countries that introduces pop culture.
Also at Teen Top’s Brazil blog (Teen Top Brazil: http://teentopbrazil.wordpress.com/) it has passed 70,000 visitors and are receiving lots of interests amongst fans. At the blog many comments such as ‘I’m extremely proud of Teen Top who is growing internationally’, ‘If I am able to watch Teen Top’s performance even in Brazil, it would be great!’ etc.. were written.

In the phone conversation with Teen Top’s management company, TOP Media mentioned that ‘Every time LJOE raps the part, which became criticized for its pronunciation in ‘Crazy’, it is done carefully.’ and ‘If you listen well to it, LJOE is exceptionally careful.’
In Teen Top’s new song ‘Crazy’, ‘still like heck’ came out in the lyrics. After the song got released, opinions, on the rap part that is to be done quickly: like heck which sounded just like a curse word, rose.
To this sort of pronunciation criticisms, Teen Top’s management company and LJOE, himself, once again specially paid more attention rapping and making clear of the part. Also the producer of this song, Brave Brothers directly turned up to clarify the issue saying ‘It was not intentional’.
